Oleksandra Halkina

Oleksandra Halkina was born in 1984 and began violin lessons from the age of 6. Since this time she became a winner of numerous regional and national young violinist contests in Ukraine. She attended the Gliere Music College in Kiev (1999-2003) and studied for a Diploma with honours. During this time her violin teacher was Oles Semchuk who was assistant professor to the famous Bogodar Kotorovich.
Oleksandra studied at the P.I. Tchaikovsky National Musical Academy of Ukraine (2003-2008) and graduated as a Master of Music, MMus. Oleksandra was also a Concertmaster of Kiev Musical Academy Orchestra with conductor Roman Kofman.
She has participated in different festivals and concerts all over the world as a soloist and 1st violinist. Oleksandra has extensive symphonic and chamber music experience in various symphonic and chamber ensembles and was a member of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine 1st violins between 2005-2008.
Oleksandra has worked as a bandleader and guest entertainer in string quartets on Holland America Line, NCL and Cunard Line. In 2011 she has worked as a guest classical entertainer in a Piano/Violin Duo on board Norwegian Jewel.
She has performed on board Queen Mary 2 regularly since 2009 and has performed with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and with graduates from the Julliard School of Music. In 2015 she entertained the audience on Cunard’s Queen Victoria in a show with Australian International Violinist Ian Cooper.
Since moving to the UK in 2013 Oleksandra worked as a quest entertainer onboard P&O cruises and Fred Olsen. As part of the act Harmony Duo she has performed a violin and piano show on board Oriana, Aurora, Ventura and Arcadia.
Oleksandra has performed in groups and as a soloist around London and has featured at the House of Lords in Westminster and the Roundhouse in Camden. She had a tour to India with Giardino string quartet in October 2019. She has performed for Sheiks and Royalty at the luxury brand Cartier presentation of their new collection in Saudi Arabia in 2019.
Oleksandra has performed at the Christmas celebration for the Royal Navy.
This spring as a part of Giardino strings session orchestra they have done an audio and video recording for Yamaha.
Her violin lesson videos on Youtube in russian language hit in total almost half a million views.
Oleksandra teaches violin and piano privately in her residential house in Hampshire.
She performs in regular demand as an electric violinist for nightclubs in London, Oxford and Bournemouth and for corporate events and weddings. Oleksandra became a British citizen in 2019.

January 2020 - along with an award winning cellist Lidia Alonso, Oleksandra became co-owner, co-founder and lead violinist of Halo Strings–a new female string quartet based in the United Kingdom. As a part of this group she has recorded for various ensembles, singers and composers including Ryan Martin, Tara Hack, Sarah Darling, LDN feautures and Chris Cara.
Oleksandra has taken part in several international music contests in 2021, which due to the pandemic were held online.
